Dear Mama...

Logline: The death of Tupac draws different reactions from a father and his artistic daughter, forcing them to confront the emotional aftermath of their own tragedy.

Full Synopsis: Set in the 90s in South LA, a family grieving the loss of their beloved mother and wife pack up their home in hopes of putting the past behind them. Tanisha, a young, artistic rap fan, tries to hold onto the last pieces of her mother the only way she knows how – a camera she once owned. Meanwhile, Nate, unable to come to terms with the death of his wife, buries them in work in hopes of numbing the pain. While Nate might think he’s doing God’s work by keeping the family afloat, he’s actually stifling his daughter and the two are constantly at odds. Soon, the breaking death of a musical icon Tanisha and her mother once held dear, sparks a confrontation between the two. Tanisha’s need to feel closer to her mother by attending the rapper’s vigil is challenged by Nate, who must learn that people grieve in different ways. Tanisha and Nate are forced to confront the ways they’ve been hurting each other, before taking the first steps to heal.

The Expats International Ingrams

The Expats International Ingrams

Thank you for considering our series. The Expats International Ingrams sheds light on the dynamic, exciting, and unpredictable life of EXPAT families; as well as educates and introduces new places and experiences to families. The Ingrams will be an inside source of what it's like to live black and abroad; discovering and adapting to new cultures. Juanita, who is an American licensed attorney, author, actress, and Founder & CEO of Purpose Productions, Inc. (a 501(c)3 minority women-owned production company), came up with the show’s concept when she realized that her story could help not only other black families abroad but also trailing spouses. These unscripted series ushers in a new subcategory of "smart-reality" TV utilizing the "edutainment" approach originally pioneered by the Black Panthers. Filmed in four countries in 2019 and 2020 (through the pandemic), the directors used virtual methods to bring this project showcasing positive black images and stereotype-breaking content to audiences. This series ushers in positive change and not only motivates BIPOC people to see themselves having a host of new possibilities in a similar fashion to how “A Different World” shaped views on higher education; it equally ushers in a new genre of conscious-reality TV, offering a positive, family-friendly, and immensely entertaining depiction of BIPOC expats, directly combating the distorted representation of BIPOC people; and tackling tough yet relatable issues while breaking stereotypes and increasing a more inclusive representation of expats of color

“It is vital that we control our own narrative when depicting our journey. I wanted to ensure that we gave a genuine and authentic depiction of the experiences shared in this series,” said Ingram. “Ownership and controlling the narrative of black lives as depicted in media matters.”

PURPOSE Productions Inc. a 501(c)3 production/media company created in 2018 to produce content, film, documentaries, TV series, books, seminars, and other forms of impactful media uniquely dedicated to uncompromising empowerment of women and underserved/ marginalized people.
